Saraki Dsitributes N2M to Indigent Students, Traders
Chairman, Senate committee on environment and ecology, Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has disbursed N2 million to 60 Kwarans including students and traders as a poverty alleviation measure.
According to him, so far 160 persons drawn from the three senatorial districts of the state had benefited from the monthly poverty alleviation scheme which he launched in July this year.
Presenting the cash donation to the beneficiaries on behalf of Saraki, yesterday, the chairman of the poverty alleviation scheme committee and special adviser political to Senator Saraki, Malam Yunus Abdulrahman said the essence of the programme was to help indigent citizens of the state.
He emphasised that the federal lawmaker launched the programme to wipe tears from the faces of Kwarans irrespective of political affiliation.
The lawmaker noted that the scheme was targeted at assisting those who need money to pursue academic career, settling hospital bill, trading and social events as well as provision of infrastructures such as roads and water.
He, however, urged the beneficiaries to judiciously utilise the money given to them and charged the coordinators of the scheme to ensure that the scheme is open to all irrespective of political party affiliation.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, M. Abdulrahim from Ajase - Ipo Ward 11 in Irepodun local government area of the state, (Kwara South) thanked Senator Saraki for his kind gesture.
