Kwara CJ pardons six inmates

In a bid to decongest prisons, Kwara State Chief Judge, Justice Suleiman Kawu, have freed six inmates awaiting trial at Federal Custody in Oke-Kura and Mandala area of the state.

The inmates released included those who took ill and others who committed minor offences, in which five were freed from Oke-Kura, while the other one was from Mandala, Kawu said the pardon granted to the released inmates was part of his statutory duty to continuously ensure that the prisons were decongested.

The CJ who was accompanied by Attorney General and State Commissioner for Justice, Kamaldeen Ajibade, senior members of judiciary including Judges, Magistrates, Area Court Judges, Chief Registrar, Officials of the Kwara State Ministry of Justice and members of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), said the purpose of the visit to the prisons was to ensure a speedy administration of justice to the inmates that were awaiting trial.

"The gesture was not just aimed at decongesting the prison but also to ensure that deserving inmates are made to breathe fresh air of freedom," the CJ explained. Those freed were: Adewuyi Olasukanmi, Daniel Oladimaje, Olawale Olatunji, Segun Isaac, Ojo Akeem and Ibrahim Danchi.
