Kwara Governor condemns attack on oil installations

Date: 2016-05-31

Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State has described as unreasonable and unnecessary, the attacks on oil installations by militants in the Niger Delta.

Governor Ahmed, who spoke at an interactive session with journalists at his lodge, said blowing up the pipelines could cause a set back to the country. He said dialogue remained the best solution to resolving issues with government.

On the issue of herdsmen and farmers clashes, Governor Ahmed advocated a deliberate agricultural policy that would incorporate cattle rearing as a business venture.

He expressed concerns over the ethno-political colouration attached to the issue and stressed the need to streamline agriculture as a major source of revenue generation.

Governor Ahmed also called for policies on farm protection, land issues and strong research institutions in order to make agriculture a serious business.
