Kwara varsity accuses lecturers of attempt to disrupt academic activities

It said the group of academic staff, mobilized by Dr. Dauda Adeshola, who was reportedly earlier suspended by the University for misconduct, but later pardoned, blocked the University gate for about two hours, thereby preventing law abiding students, lecturers and others who had legitimate business to do in the University from gaining access.

The management of the Kwara State University, Malete on Wednesday alleged attempts by some academic staff to disrupt activities in the school. The management said this was inspite of warnings against unlawful assembly. It said in a statement that a group of academic staff took the laws into their hands by inviting some lecturers from other universities to disrupt academic activities at the school.

It said the group of academic staff, mobilized by Dr. Dauda Adeshola, who was reportedly earlier suspended by the University for misconduct, but later pardoned, blocked the University gate for about two hours, thereby preventing law abiding students, lecturers and others who had legitimate business to do in the University from gaining access.

It said the group of unknown visitors had earlier attempted to forcefully enter the University to hold an unauthorized meeting. The statement said they also attempted to go violent but for the calmness and maturity displayed by the officials of the University Safety Unit and other security agencies who were mobilized to the scene to maintain law and order.

The statement signed by Yusuf Suleiman of the Office of the Director, University Relations, added: "The University Management viewed the conduct of this group of academic staff with serious concern.

"The administration wishes to seize this medium to advise all KWASU staff to remain law abiding and ensure that peace and stability continue to reign in the University."
