Biometric data would block leakages - NUT Chairman
The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in Kwara Alhaji Abubakar Musa has expressed optimism that the ongoing biometric data exercise for teachers in the state would block leakages. Musa stated this in llorin during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
The chairman who said the Union suspended its over two months strike over unpaid salaries expressed hope that the exercise would block loopholes and leakages. Musa advised the affected teachers in Primary and Junior Secondary Schools in the state to make themselves available for the success of the biometric data exercise.
He advised further that teachers should provide accurate and useful information that would aid the success of the exercise. When NAN visited some Primary and Junior Secondary Schools in llorin metropolis on Monday, teachers were busy filling verification forms for the biometric data exercise.
The turnout of number of pupils and students were impressive when compared with last week when majority of pupils shunned classes. Teaching and learning were however not yet in full swing as most teachers on ground were still busy with the filling of the verification forms.
The headmaster of Ajegunle-Joro primary school in the llorin West Local Government area of the state, Alhaji Abdullahi-Suleiman Agaka who spoke with NAN described the conditions of most teachers as pathetic. Agaka attributed the unpaid salaries of teachers to mismanagement at the state Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
The Headmaster called for the full investigation into the activities of SUBEB so that the ongoing biometric data would yield fruitful result. NAN recalled that the NUT in Kwara last week Monday suspended the over two months old strike embarked upon by the teachers for three weeks over unpaid salaries for biometric exercise to take place.
