Kwara varsity lifts suspension on six academic staff

The management of Kwara State University, Malete has lifted suspension placed on six academic staff of the institution.

This follows an amicable resolution of the issues that led to the suspension. Following a meeting on Tuesday at which matters relating to the suspension were discussed in a convivial atmosphere, it was agreed that the suspended staff be recalled immediately, with a pledge that all staff of the institution would continue to work as a family and to ensure peaceful and stable academic activities in the institution.

It was also resolved that staff of KWASU should continue to work together as a family to ensure the destined greatness of the institution as a research-intensive university focused on positive development of the community.

The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji AbdulFatah Ahmed, who was happy with the peaceful resolution of the issues, has assured the management of government's sustained support for the institution. Advertisement

Governor Ahmed, who is the Visitor to the university, also said the goal of government in establishing KWASU was to make it a world class institution with uninterrupted academic calendar and urged all staff to be conscious of this goal at all times. He said government would continue to support KWASU in meeting its goals.

Meanwhile, the management of KWASU has granted approval to staff of the university to commence the process of formation of unions with immediate effect. The Vice-Chancellor of KWASU, Prof. AbdulRasheed Na'Allah, said KWASU has never rejected unionism in the first place and that he is ready to support any peaceful and progressive unionism for staff and students that will allow for healthy diversity of views and promote the growth of our nation.
