Kwara spends N1bn on water reticulation

Date: 2012-05-22

The Kwara Government has spent N1 billion on water reticulation of Ilorin metropolis to end the shortage of water supply.

Idris Abubakar, the Commissioner for Water Resources, said this on Monday at an inter-ministerial briefing on the activities of his ministry in the past one year.

According to him, pipe laying network of Ilorin metropolis is near completion while other phases of the water reticulation will be completed by the contractor to ease water problem in the state.

``Government has paid N1billion to a Chinese firm for the water reticulation and it will be completed soon," he said.  "Water is rationed in the metropolis now because the existing facility cannot sustain the supply, but when the reticulation is completed, water scarcity will be a thing of the past," he said.

He also said that all water works in the state had been rehabilitated, while 40 boreholes had been sunk in the three senatorial districts to meet the government agenda of water provision to the people.

Abubakar Kanike, the Commissioner for Energy, said that 15 projects had been completed while more than 50 transformers were procured and installed in various parts of the state.

According to him, the gesture is aimed at boosting the socio-economic activities of the state through electricity supply.

He said that the Ganmo power step down, built by the state government would be fully utilised when electricity improved in Nigeria.
