Community protests 5-months power cut

Date: 2014-10-30

Residents of Sabo Oke community of Ilorin, Kwara State, Tuesday, protested over five months of power cut in the area.

They accused officials of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) of charging outrageous bills without providing electricity.

The community comprised Akintola area, Fufu street, Kabba street , Alalubosa area, Maraba, and Murtala Muhammed way among others.

The non-availability of electricity in the area, it was gathered, might not be unconnected with an attack on some officials of the IBEDC by some youths in the community.

Members of the community accused electricity officials of being insensitive to their plight. They matched towards the office of the company before moving to the police A division where they reported their case.

IBEDC Challenge Business Manager, Engr. Kayode Moyosade, dismissed the allegations made by the community, urging them to provide evidence of the exploitation. He noted that Sabo Oke is not the only community under the company's district, saying: "I don't know the problem with these people. I am just coming from the police station and we have been supplying them electricity".
