Press Release: Saraki Congratulates Gov Ahmed on Award

Date: 2014-10-09

On behalf of my Kwara Central constituents, and the people of the great state of Kwara, I would like to send a hearty congratulations to Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed on his work with the Kwara Community Health Insurance Scheme, which has earned him the recognition as one of the global top-ten finalists for the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) Prize organized by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

This noteworthy poverty alleviation scheme that was started in 2003 has been recognized by this award as one of the top ten programs in the world that have aided in combating poverty and improving the quality of healthcare by establishing a comprehensive and innovative approach that addresses the demand and supply constraints that come into play in healthcare systems.

At the awards ceremony held in Paris, France on the 7th of October, the OECD further praised the sustainability of the program, and commended the significant approaches that the Kwara state government has been utilizing to overcome the barriers that often lead to market failure in such endeavours.

The 2014 DAC Prize has sought to bring to the fore the significant achievements in development around the world, and it is a testament to the strength of the program that Governor Ahmed has been chosen as one of the 10 global recipients.

Through his continuation of this scheme which was a major benchmark during my administration, Governor Ahmed has demonstrated that he believes in a better quality of life for Kwarans, and has also shown that he is willing to work towards the betterment of our people.

As the world takes note of Governor Ahmed's achievements in the poverty and healthcare sector, I enjoin the people of our great state to celebrate with our esteemed Kwara-son, on this significant achievement.

May the Almighty continue to bless our Governor, and may He in his infinite mercies continue to bless our great state.

Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki
