Terrorism: Belgore seeks massive job creation for youths

Date: 2014-09-07

Legal luminary and chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State, Mr. Dele Belgore, SAN, has called on the federal and state governments to roll out a marshal plan against youth unemployment. He said to address the terrorism challenge confronting the country, government must strive to address the causes of terrorism.

"We have to provide our youths with gainful employment that will keep them away from all anti-social activities. Employing a few thousand youths and paying them a stipend like N20,000 per month is not it", he said.

Belgore stated this in his keynote address at a peace Town Hall meeting organised by Jonathan Actualization Movement (JAM) in Ilorin, Kwara State. He added, "There needs to be massive job creation to employ millions of people. Both the Federal and state governments need to work together on the creation of our own equivalent of the "Marshal Plan" that was established in Europe after the Second World War to put the million of people back to work".

The PDP governorship hopeful harped on the need to address the issue of religious fanaticism especially of the Fundamental Islam type, adding, "It will require the cooperation and support of our Islamic leaders. There should be close monitoring of unorthodox religious groups to ensure they are not used as breeding ground for recruiting gullible youths into terrorism".
