Judge Seeks Amicable Resolution of Judiciary Workers Strike
An Omu-Aran Area Court Judge, Mr Abolade Banigbe, has called for an amicable resolution of the industrial action embarked upon by judiciary workers in the interest of the nation.
Banigbe, who spoke in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Omu-Aran, Kwara on Saturday, described the judiciary as the last hope of the common man.
He said there was an urgent need to protect the sector from being subjected to unnecessary disrepute, adding that the on-going industrial action was capable of compounding the sector's numerous challenges.
Banigbe said the industrial action could be a stumbling block to the Federal Government's efforts to reduce the number of awaiting trial prison inmates.
"Without mincing word, there was urgent need for government and the judiciary workers to reach amicable settlement of the dispute in no distant time to save the sector from disrepute.
"The warring parties should, as a matter of urgency, come to an agreeable term that would go a long way in tackling effectively the numerous challenges facing the sector.
"Most of the lower courts in the communities had continued to register higher number of cases including theft, assault, disturbance of public peace," he noted.(NAN)
