Saraki set to join presidential race
Former Governor of Kwara State, Senator Bukola Saraki is set to contest the 2015 presidential race on the platform of the All Progressives Congress(APC).
Saraki, who is the chairman, Senate Committee on Environment and Ecology this week concluded series of consultations he had embarked on two months ago, with a firm decision to contest the presidential election.
A source from his campaign organization said Saraki strongly believes that President Goodluck Jonathan can be defeated if he emerges candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
"The reception Saraki was treated to during the series of consultations across the country was "very positive" as he was seen as someone who can fix Nigeria.
"He is going to run a pan-nigerian campaign and many of the stakeholders see him as someone who can fix Nigeria," the source said, adding that Saraki has garnered experience in the public service that puts him in a good position to run the nation's highest office.
The former governor is expected to design a campaign that will de-emphasize religion, ethnicity and bigotry.
A source close to the campaign said Saraki will formally declare shortly after the Ramadan fast.
"I can tell you that all is now set for Senator Saraki to formally announce his candidature for the 2015 election," he said.
