Date: 2014-06-12

Chief Commercial Director, Globacom Limited, Dr. David Ehikhuemen, has said that Globacom is willing to partner the University of Ilorin for the optimisation of the school’s Information and Communication Technology infrastructure.

According to the UNILORIN bulletin made available to journalists in Ilorin on Monday, the Globacom CCD spoke when he led a team from the company on a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, recently.

Ehikhuemen said the ICT optimisation project would improve the institution’s triple mandate of teaching, research and community service.

He stated that the company was desirous of having a robust relationship with the institution, “especially in the optimisation of the telephony on campus.” This, he noted, would assist reduce the university’s budget on ICT.

Also, the Head of Globacom Mobile Money, Mr. Esaie Diei, said the company was willing to start a pilot project that would boost cashless behaviour on the campus.

Ambali, in his response, said Globacom had made significant contributions to the development of ICT in Africa, and stated that the institution was proud to associate with the telecommunications giant.

The VC claimed that UNILORIN was the first to introduce computer-based test, adding that the senate and council meetings of the university are paperless.

He also claimed that the university was the first to deploy ICT facilities in all facets of its system.
