President May Name Gov Obi, Belgore Ministers

Date: 2014-03-10

Barring all unforeseen circumstances, the outgoing governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi and the former governorship candidate of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria in Kwara State during the last general election, Dele Belgore may be named ministers by President Goodluck Jonathan.

Obi will hand over today to his successor whom he said his administration has saved N75billion for to kick-start his regime. Belgore on his part joined Senator Gbemisola Saraki and others to decamp from APC to PDP in protest against the defection of Senator Bukola Saraki and Kwara State governor to APC.

Gbemisola Saraki and her political associate, Mrs Bola Shagaya have been named members of the forthcoming National Conference by President Jonathan as a reward for their reunion with PDP.

LEADERSHIP has it on good authority that Peter Obi would replace the sacked aviation minister, Stella Oduah any moment from now.

According to a Presidency source, the coordinating minister of the economy and minister of finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala was speaking the mind of the president in Anambra State at the weekend when she said the federal government would bring Obi closer to the centre because of his outstanding performance.

The minister, who said she was very proud of the governor and his achievements, disclosed that the federal government is now trying to adopt Obi's education policy, adding that the government has plans to keep the outgoing governor close to the centre.

She praised Obi for completing projects initiated by his predecessors, attracting viable foreign direct investments, encouraging and empowering indigenous investors and industrialists to grow and expand.

Speaking in the same vein, the world renowned business guru, Alhaji Aliku Dangote said Governor Obi had earned the respect and admiration of Nigerians, noting that no state had saved so much money and made such investments in addition to mass infrastructural development achieved by Obi.

"Mark it, President Jonathan would soon name Obi as minister replacing Stella Oduah who also hails from Anambra any moment from now. Don't forget this is electioneering year and his influence in the state is also needed for his victory come 2015", said the source.

Speaking further, he said, "Belgore would also be named the minister representing Kwara State, to replace Bolaji Abdullahi whop was sacked last week. Belgore believed he was robbed of victory by the incumbent governor and he and others have vowed to return Kwara state back to the PDP fold come 2015."
