How Abdurrashed, Tafeeqah Met in Lagos, Married In Kwara
On Saturday, January 4 2014, in Aran Oni community, Kwara State will never forget in a rush how the Editor-in-Chief of Al-Fahm and entertainment editor of the Encomium Magazine, Mallam Abdur-rasheed wedded his hearthrob, Taofeeqah Salami, a graduate of Physiology from the prestigious University of Ilorin. She is from the prominent Awayewaserere's family. Among the dignitaries present at the Nikkai were Spiritual leader of the Nigeria Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs, Sheikh Dhikrullah Sha’fi; Chief Imam of Aran Orin, Sheikh Salaudeen Abolarin; Imam Quadri Salaudeen; Honourable Uthman Oyedipo; Prof. Abdulrasaq Kelani for University of Port Harcourt and Alaran of Aran Orin, Oba Joseph Babalola.
In addition to the personalities were representations from Young Muslim Association of Nigeria, Vanguard Academy, NASFAT, Hajj MAbrur, Federation of Muslim Women, Muslim Association of Nigeria, Muslim Students Society of Nigeria, Oyo State Muslim Community, Aran Orin Progressive Union and The Muslim Conference among other.
Though, the couples met in Lagos, they married in the State of Harmony, which, according to some guests at the wedding, was an indication that Allah Blessing would reign in the amalgamation.
After a dignified Teslim, Imam Abolarinwa, commended the parents of the couple for portraying the virtues of Islam through their children.
Expressing his joy over the wedding, he said, “This occasion has continued to receive our prayers for not less than a week. It is a gathering in line with the commandments of Allah and we hope that His blessings will not leave the couple.”
In his lecture, Sheik Dhikrullah Sha'fi, who coordinated the wedding, urged Muslims not to deviate from the model prescribed by the Quran and the prophet.
The Islamic luminary, who highlighted the conditions for marriage, clarified that Ta’aaruf(introduction) was different from wedding.
Among the limitations he said could falsify a marriage were if the people are breast fed by the same parent, adding that couples should not be forced on each other.
As a way to authenticate the wedding, Sheik Sha’fi, asked the couple their opinion about coming together.
When asked, Abdurrasheed, said, “I am comfortable with her with all my heart”, and later added “and soul”
For Taofeeqah, she said, “I am convenient with him with all my soul.” She, however, demanded for English and Arabic versions of Sahih Bukhari as her bride price.
YMAN honours Taofeeqah as Alafin donates plot of land
As a means of honouring Taofeeqah and her family, the Young Muslim Association of Nigeria announced the recruitment and slary payment of a Secondary school teacher in the town.
Also, the Alafin of Aran Orin used the opportunity of the Nikkai to donate a plot of land to the YMAN.
He said this was to appreciate the commitment of the YMAN, a group, he said, the family of Taofeeqah played great role in.
“Having been impressed by this occasion and the contribution of Taofeeqah, we donate a plot of land to YMAN for their secretariat building. This is due to their contribution to the development of this community,” he said.
Be watchful of your tongues, couple warned
Among the advice Abdurrasheed and Taofeqah were given to take home on the day they became one was to be watchful of their tongues.
The advice came from Prof. Rasaq Kelani. He said, “Most disagreement between couples is not what they say to each other but how they say it. The tongue is very delicate. This is why when you remove the tongue, it will look like a sword and when you keep it. So, keep your tongue, don’t abuse your families.”
Other scholars warned the couple to be patient, prayerful and to persevere.
Giving the vote of thanks, Abdrrasheed, who solicited with Palestine and other Islamic country under attack with a Rabbi sign, said, “All thanks is due to Allah. I want us to recite Suratul Ikhlass for my late father. I am grateful to Allah for making this occasion successful and I thank everyone for finding time to come including our parents who made this occasion gracious for us.”
