Kwara 2015: Gbemi Submits Nomination Form, Says PDP Will Win By A Landslide
Frontline governorship aspirant in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State, Senator Gbemisola Rukayyah Saraki, has said that the party will defeat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) by a landslide.
Saraki, who stated this in an interview with journalists shortly after she submitted her nomination form at the Wadata Plaza national secretariat of the PDP in Abuja, said that the people of Kwara had suffered a lot of hardship under the ruling APC, promising that if elected as governor of the state, she would bring sanity to governance and would be humane in her approach to policies that directly affected the people.
“The public profile of a good leader, as espoused particularly in the press, routinely includes attributes like being tough, decisive, hard-nosed, quick-to-judge, ultra-rational and results-driven. Yes, these are great attributes, but the tide is also tilting fast towards compassionate leadership, which I call leading with feelings,” she said.
Speaking further, she said; “Compassionate leaders do naturally resonate with the people; they always have the time to engage in connective conversations with the people. They move the people passionately and purposefully with a shared vision that plays on the positive.
“This, as evident in the governance of the state, over the last few years, is what is acutely lacking in Kwara State at the moment. And that is what the PDP government, God willing, when we win, will bring onto governance in Kwara State.
“Our administration, if elected, will focus on human capital development with the view to bringing government nearer to the people. Our manifesto is geared towards developing every facet of human endeavour and make it more participatory than what we have now.”
When asked about the multiplicity of PDP governorship aspirants from her state, she said the more, the merrier, opining that the fact that there were over 10 aspirants contesting for the governorship seat was indicative of the liberal political system that the PDP practiced.
“At the end of the day, the most popular of the aspirants will win at the primaries. It is only through such a transparent process that others will line up in support of the eventual winner to be able to win at the polls.”
