Kwara pledges support for commission
The Kwara State Government has reiterated its continued support to its Fiscal Responsibility Commission in its effort to further achieve the best for the state.
The Secretary to the Government of Kwara State, Alhaji Isiaka Gold, gave the hint yesterday when members of the Taraba State Fiscal Responsibility Commission paid him a courtesy call in his office.
The SSG underscored the need for peer review to the team which is on a two-day working visit to the state.
He said: "I want to stress that peer review mechanism which has become an acceptable technique to carefully understudy peers and select for adoption best practices evident on the peer of study is the vogue for good governance. This needs to be sustained.
"I, therefore, praise the decision of the Chairman Taraba State Fiscal Responsibility Commission for selecting for study Kwara State Fiscal Responsibility Commission. I believe the operators of the commissions would learn a lot from their experiencies for effective discharge of their onerous responsibilities."
While wishing them fruitful deliberations and return afterwards, Alhaji Gold told the visitors that the commission in Kwara had successfully organized seminars and workshops for the three arms and tiers of government at all levels on the need for public servants to imbibe the virtues of transparency, accountability, prudence, probity and due process.
Accordingly, he noted, "the people of Kwara have keyed-in to the zero tolerance for corruption and sharp practices policy of the administration of His Excellency, Alhaji (Dr.) Abdulfatah Ahmed, the Executive Governor of Kwara State and we are making the required progress in all spheres for the good of all."
The SSG attributed the success recorded by the Kwara State Fiscal Responsibility Commission to its pioneer chair, Alhaji Shehu Gafar, Dan Madami of Ilorin, stressing that his and members’ rich experience set the pace for the impact to reach all and sundry in the state.
Earlier in his remark, the chairman of Taraba State Fiscal Responsibility Commission, Mr. Benjamin Ibisu said his team was on a fact-finding mission to the state, adding that Kwara was a peacetter in fiscal responsibility.
He said they had learnt a lot since they arrived, stating that they were particularly attuned to the virtues of transparency and accountability.
Chairman of Kwara FRC, Alhaji Shehu Gafar, OON, Dan Madami of Ilorin, other members; Commissioner for Environment and Forestry, Barrister Kayode Towoju; Permanent Secretary-General Services, Alhaji Muri A. Shehu, other top government officials were in attendance; while Mr. Yakubu Bibinu, director and Mr Charles Joda, Chief Admin Officer were among the visitors.
