'My husband embarrasses me by drinking and vomiting everywhere'

Date: 2013-06-15

An Ilorin Area Court  in Kwara State has dissolved  the  five-year-old union between Fausat Kabiru and her husband, Ahmed, over  the latter’s  excessive consumption of alcohol.

Fausat, 34, a resident of Okelele Area of  Ilorin, had earlier prayed the court to dissolve her marriage to Ahmed  whom she accused of   being addicted to alcoholic  drinks  which made him get drunk all the time.

The petitioner told the court that her husband was fond of  frequenting  drinking joints, claiming to be relaxing.

“My husband would sometimes get drunk and  vomit  everywhere in our bedroom.

“My lord, I want an end to this marriage because I can no longer withstand the shame my husband has brought to this family,” said the woman.

Their marriage, according to her, was contracted in 2008 and had produced two male children.

The respondent did not object to the prayer of his wife, saying he was tired of his wife’s frequent complaints.

“She knew before now that I like drinking beer, I therefore wonder why she’s  now complaining,” he said.

He prayed the court to grant  his wife's prayer.

The judge, Mr Ibrahim Abdulquadri,  dissolved the  marriage and issued a certificate of divorce to the plaintiff.
