World Stroke Day: ACPN Organises Medical Outreach, Donates Drugs to Kwara NSCDC Command
The Association of Community Pharmacists of Nigeria (ACPN), Kwara State Chapter, has conducted a medical outreach and donated pharmaceutical supplies to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, to mark World Stroke Day, observed globally on October 29.
The healthcare initiative, which took place on Thursday, 29 October 2026, was conducted simultaneously at the NSCDC Kwara State Command Headquarters and Ason Pharmacy.
Delivering the opening remarks, the Chairman of the Kwara State ACPN, Pharm. David Ajayi, represented by Pharm. Durotoye Sammuel, noted that extending the medical outreach to the NSCDC was a strategic corporate social responsibility measure designed to foster institutional synergy between community pharmacists and security formations.
He explained that the exercise was structured to guarantee access to preventive healthcare for officers responsible for protecting lives and property, shielding them against stroke and other fatal medical conditions.
He further highlighted that community pharmacies serve as crucial primary healthcare hubs, emphasizing their pivotal role within the broader medical ecosystem.
"Community pharmacists are the most accessible providers in your neighbourhood. We are the first line of defence," he stated.
He noted that the global theme for the 2026 observance, "Every Minute Counts," underscored the critical necessity of sustaining a healthy and productive workforce, observing that national stability is compromised when citizens succumb to preventable cardiovascular emergencies.
Responding on behalf of the NSCDC, Kwara State Commandant Abbas Ndah Mohammed, represented by DCC Ikpeme Sunday, expressed gratitude to the association for bringing the outreach to the command and donating essential medical drugs.
He assured the ACPN of the command's readiness to collaborate on future health awareness initiatives while encouraging NSCDC personnel to take advantage of the exercise to monitor their health status.
The dual-location outreach provided free diagnostic screenings, including blood pressure checks, blood glucose testing, malaria rapid diagnostic tests, body mass index evaluations, and HIV/AIDS testing.
In addition to diagnostic assessments, the association distributed free prescription medications and provided clinical counselling to participating officers and members of the public.
