Boko Haram's West agenda will fail - AIG
The police have described the attempt by Boko Haram and its splinter faction, Jama’atu Ansarul Muslimina Fi Biladis-Sudan, to make an incursion into the South West as a failed mission.
The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 8, comprising Kwara, Kogi and Ekiti states, Mr. Johnson Jonathan, said this while speaking with journalists in Ado Ekiti on Saturday after inspecting police barracks and the Police Children School in the state capital.
Jonathan expressed satisfaction with the condition of the barracks and the school he inspected, saying they were beautiful and neat.
The police boss said security agencies were working round the clock to ensure that any attempt made by these groups or any violent group failed.
He, however, urged Nigerians to always furnish the police with useful information that could assist them better to prevent crimes. He stated that doing this would make the job of policing the country easier for force and guarantee peace in the society.
He said, “Although I have not seen the news report on the plan to attack the South West, but I can tell you that such plans will not succeed.
“Everybody should be security conscious because everybody is a security man. The only difference between you and I is the uniform given to me by the government but we all have to work together especially in the area of security.
“The South-West is more complicated than where the group started from but whether the incursion into the zone by these groups is true or just a mere rumour, our people would have to be vigilant.
“The people must raise the standard of their awareness and enlightenment to be able to deal with the situation. But I am confident that the mission is a failed mission in the South-West because the level of awareness here is high.”
The AIG also advised policemen, especially those on the road to be more friendly with the people the deal with saying by being courteous to them, they would gain their respect and confidence.
