Bukola Saraki Reaches Out with Cash, Solidarity to Kidnapped Monarchs' Families, Deserted Villages
Former Senate President and two-term Governor of Kwara State, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has dispatched a delegation of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftains to no fewer than 19 communities recently devastated by bandit attacks in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara South Senatorial District.
The delegation, led by the Kwara State PDP Treasurer, Reverend C. O. S. Fawenu, visited Agbeku Community, Bayagan-Ile, Aafin-Ile Ere, Sagbe, Labaka Oja, Oroago, Adanla, Owa Kajola, Oreke, Oke Igbo, Alabe, Bankole Community, Budo-Idowu, Ologomo, Ganmu Alheri-Ilere, Aiyetoro, Alabe Idera, and Oloruntele to assess living conditions, offer comfort, and deliver financial assistance on behalf of Dr Saraki.
Reverend Fawenu disclosed that this marked the fourth phase of Dr Saraki's intervention since 2025, covering affected communities across Kwara North and Kwara South.
The team sympathised with monarchs and residents, many of whose towns have been largely deserted following repeated violent attacks and abductions, including those of traditional rulers.
At the palace of Oba Abdulazeez Shola Agboola Adeshina (Oba Idera II), the Oba of Agbeku, the delegation commended the monarch for remaining in his domain despite the security challenges and presented financial support for community recovery. The monarch thanked Dr Saraki, recalling that he remains the only sitting governor to have ever visited Agbeku since his ascension.
The delegation also visited the family of the kidnapped Oniwo of Afin Community in Ileere District and his son, an NYSC member, delivering messages of hope and financial assistance while praying for the monarch's safe return. They equally rejoiced with the Ojibara of Bayagan-Ile, Oba Kamiludeen Salami, who regained freedom after 25 days in captivity, praising his courage for refusing to abandon his people.
Reverend Fawenu explained that Dr Saraki would have personally led the visits but avoided doing so to prevent the humanitarian gesture from being given political interpretation.
Other members of the delegation were Hon. Dr W. W. Memudu, PDP Chairman in Ifelodun; Hon. Wasiu Odewale, former Commissioner; Elder Wale Olawomo; Alhaji Abdulrasaq Zubairu; Mr Segun Adwuyi; and Comrade Olusegun Olusola Adewara, the State PDP Publicity Secretary.
