Kwara Police Arrest 44 Suspects, Recover Arms and Rescue Kidnap Victims in Major Crackdown
The Kwara State Police Command has arrested 44 suspected criminals and recovered a large cache of arms, ammunition, and other illegal items in a statewide security operation.
Commissioner of Police Adekimi Ojo disclosed the figures during a briefing for newsmen in Ilorin, detailing the command's recent achievements in combating crime.
He said the suspects were apprehended across various locations in the state and are facing charges ranging from armed robbery and criminal conspiracy to culpable homicide, trafficking in human parts, possession of human remains for ritual purposes, and conspiracy to commit felony.
Recovered items include firearms, live cartridges, battle axes, hard drugs, two cows, vehicles, and a total of N2.7 million in cash.
Ojo confirmed that two kidnapping victims were also rescued during the operational period.
He referenced a recent incident on 15 August 2025, when heavily armed kidnappers attacked the residence of one Yusuf Adamu in Shiya via Okuta, underscoring the urgency of the police response.
The command has pledged to sustain the momentum in restoring peace and protecting citizens.
The commissioner said during the attack, his wife, Yusuf Suliat, was abducted at gunpoint and taken away to an unknown location.
Ojo said immediately after the incident, the police command, in synergy with local vigilante groups, launched a coordinated manhunt for the perpetrators, and the suspects were arrested.
