Kwara Fire Service averts Boxing Day disaster
A swift response by operatives of the Kwara State Fire Service on Tuesday averted a major fire disaster in Ilorin, the state capital.
According to the spokesman of the Service, Hassan Adekunle, the brigade was alerted when a tanker with registration number KW 117XB transporting 20 tons of liquefied petroleum gas, LPG, was reported to be leaking profusely at about 06.41hours.
“The fire crew promptly departed from the station, upon arrival, discovered a loose valve on the tanker causing the hazardous leakage.
“Initiating their operation, they efficiently cooled the tank, enabling the tanker driver to close the valve.
“Despite the efforts, a noticeable leakage persisted, prompting the fire crew to accompany the tanker to its destination, Imam Filling Station, to avert any potential disasters.
“The Kwara State Fire Service personnel ensured the safe syphoning of the LPG,” he added.
Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Falade Olumuyiwa, commended the operatives their swift response.
He equally urged the general public to prioritize safety.
