Aim higher and not be deterred by challenges-Prof. Abdulateef Folorunsho Oladimeji
Summit University, Offa, Kwara State, Nigeria recently held its fourth annual Ramadan Lecture with great enthusiasm and pageantry.
The lecture was focused on a carefully selected topic that addressed contemporary national issues. The erudite Islamic scholar, Prof. Abdulateef Folorunsho Oladimeji, from the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at Al Hikma University in Ilorin, delivered the lecture on the theme, "Awakening Muslims in Selecting Their Political Leaders in Nigeria: Lessons Derived from the 2023 Elections."
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abiodun Muse Aibinu, expressed his appreciation to all the invitees for their presence and support.
He commended the pioneer Vice-Chancellor for his foresight in conceptualizing the annual Ramadan program and pledged to sustain it.
The Vice-Chancellor also took the opportunity to present his seven-point agenda for the university, which includes skills development, teaching, research, collaboration, internationalization, Acadopreneurship among others. He called on the guests to donate generously to the ongoing =N=500m Ramadan fundraising efforts of the university, which will be used to develop infrastructure, provide scholarships for indigent students, and equip the entrepreneurship center, I.C.T. Medicals, among others.
In his brief address, the Chairman of the occasion, Aare Bobaselu of Offa, Chief Abdulateef Kunle Ajeigbe, urged Muslims to actively participate in politics and not to sit on the fence. He encouraged Muslims to occupy the front seat of politics and stop playing the second fiddle in the scheme of things politically.
During his sermon, Prof. Oladimeji used the analogy of prophet Yusuf to drive home his theme of destiny and on political selection. He emphasized that anyone destined to be a leader would undoubtedly be led by circumstances to get to where they have been destined to be. He charged his audience to aim higher and not be deterred by challenges. He also admonished particpants thats elf nomination for leadership position is not anti-Islam as exemplified in the story of Prophet Yusuf.
Other speakers at the event included the former Vice-Chancellor, Prof. H.O.B. Oloyede and Prof. Bayo Lawal. They advised Muslims to be proud of their religion and ensure that they protect the sanctity of Islam.
The event featured a recitation of the Holy Quran and a questions and answers session. Notable traditional rulers who graced the occasion included the Onipe of Ipee, Olojoku of Ojoku, and Onira of Ira in addition to lots of high calibre officials from the Nasar Ud Deen society, Nawar Ud Deen and host of other associations. Ustaz Akape, the Chief Imam of Ansar Un-Deen Society, Offa Branch as well as the branch leadership team with host of other members graced the occassion.
