Sambo, Tambuwal, Abubakar Urge Islamic Scholars to Preach Islam Correctly
Vice President, Namadi Sambo, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal and the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammed Sa'ad Abubakar, were among several Islamic Nigerians who called on Islamic teachers and scholars across the country Friday to use their position to preach and teach young Nigerians the correct tenets of Islam.
The trio spoke at the official commissioning of the renovated Ilorin Central mosque. The mosque was renovated at the cost of N1.9 billion.
While Sambo said the call became imperative in view of the current security challenges facing the nation, Tambuwal noted that preaching of the correct version of Islam was the anti-dote needed for peace to reign in the country.
Abubakar, who expressed delight that the fund for the renovation was raised by both Christians and Muslims, called for a replication of such attitude among Nigerians as a demonstration of unity.
Niger State Governor, Alhaji Babangida Aliyu, who chaired the fund- raising ceremony for the new mosque in June 2009, called on Nigerians to take a cue from the success of the project and contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities wherever they reside, saying such was needed to foster the greater development of Nigeria.
Aliyu, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Prof. Mohammed Yahaya, expressed delight that a project of that magnitude was completed in record time, and commended the foresight of those responsible for the idea and its actualisation.
The Vice President commended the spirit of sacrifice behind the actualisation of the project despite the downturn in the economy and expressed delight that the new mosque will contribute to religious tourism and economic activities in the state.
Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfattah Ahmed described the new edifice as a unifying symbol for Muslims across the country.
Ahmed said the manner of actualising the project should be a lesson to Nigerians that genuine brotherhood was a great possibility among the people.
