Kwara Burglary: Police Interrogate Officials
Following a purported burglary in the Kwara State Ministry of Finance in September, some top government officials of the ministry have been invited for interrogation by the office of Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 8, Lokoja, Kogi State, on the order of Inspector General of Police, Mr Mohammed Abubakar.
It will be recalled that burglars, during the incident, ransacked the ministry and carted away various government documents along with unspecified amount of money.
One of the reliable sources in the ministry said people invited included permanent secretary, directors, deputy directors, assistant directors and other junior staff of the ministry.
Speaking on the development, the Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the governor, Abdulwahab Oba, confirmed the invitation of the officials, adding that it was based on the petition written by the state government to the state command of police on the matter.
The government spokesperson, who said the officials were told to go home after taking their written statement, added that no one was arrested, while none was released on bail.
He said the state government wrote the petition to the police to ensure the incident was treated with all seriousness it deserved.
The ministry sources said the affected officials, who were invited between Wednesday and Thursday last week, wrote their statements on the incident.
The source also expressed the hope that those who perpetrated the acts would be fished out within a short time.
