Date: 2012-12-05

As part of the federal government efforts to ensure that most federal roads are motorable, the Minister of Works, Arch. Mike Onolememen has assured the people of Kwara State that major federal roads in the State, particularly Ilorin-Jebba-Mokwa and the Ilorin-Kabba roads would be more motorable ahead of the expected increased vehicular movement during the forthcoming Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Mr. Onolememen gave the assurance Tuesday when he paid a courtesy call on the Governor of the State, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed at the Government House in Ilorin.

The Minister who said he was in the State to monitor the level of on-going repair works on federal roads in Kwara State promised that complete reconstruction of the roads would be captured in the next year's fiscal budget.

Mr Onolememen said the repair of federal roads in Kwara State is crucial because of the centrality of the State and as a link between the South West and Northern part of the country.

Responding the Governor of Kwara State, Dr. Abdulfatah Ahmed, who said that it was noteworthy that the federal government had started to uplift the state of federal roads, appealed for the construction of Kishi-Kaiama federal and the Ajasse-Ipo - Offa roads in order to ease challenges faced by commuters on those roads.

The Governor stressed that as part of the strategic infrastructure development programme of his administration, the State government has spent over N2billion on rural roads in the State as part in other to open up all parts of the state for economic development.

Dr. Ahmed noted that his administration's road development policy was shaped by the realization that poor road network hinders the spread of socio-economic developments adding that with good roads the transformation agenda of the federal government would be enhanced.
