Group trains 60 Interfaith leaders, students
A fellow of the King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz International Centre for Interreligiious and intercultural dialogue (KAICIID) 2022 Cohort, Imam Shefiu Abdulkareem Majemu, the founder of the Strength in Diversity Development Centre and the Islamic Platform Society of Nigeria, have engaged interfaith leaders including students on managing religious discrimination through Interreligious dialogue in schools.
The workshop which was held for two days, Monday 8th and Tuesday 9th of August, 2022 at the D' Oskar International Hotel and Suites, GRA, Ilorin, Kwara State, focused on building Interreligious understanding and collaboration among Christians and Muslims, and to douse tensions and reduce conflicts among adherents of both faiths in the state.
Participants include: members of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kwara State chapter, the Ilorin Emirate Council and students of secondary and tertiary institutions in the state.
The organiser and the chief facilitator of the project, Imam Shefiu Abdulkareem Majemu commended the effort of the KAICIID for finding him worthy of being one of the beneficiaries of the international fellows programme and implore the participants to pass the knowledge acquire to others; especially in their various homes, communities and institutions for a peaceful and prosperous society. He further said that “our diversity is divine and it should be a strength rather than being a threat to our social wellbeing.”
The workshop was brought to a close with a peace walk and rally around the GRA in Ilorin.
