Maiden kids football league kicks off in Kwara
Nothing short of classical display of football artistry on Saturday when the maiden edition of Kwara U12 YEG league kicked off amid pomp and pageantry.
With three matches on hand in the first day, fans and spectators alike were treated to the best of football as players stepped out onto the hallowed turf of Kwara football Academy (KFA) and represent their teams in a never to be forgotten 90 minutes of football.
KFA boys were the biggest winner of the day as they thrashed Honey King FA 5-0 in the opening game that was witnessed by the Executive Chairman of Kwara State Sports Commission, Mallam Bola Mogaji and the Administrator of KFA, Mallam Ibrahim Bako.
While Solicitor FA also grabbed their first win of the league with a 2-1 ein over Young Talent FA of Ogbondoroko, the lads from Makamz FA recorded a 1 nil defeat in the hands of Koller FA.
The match week one fixture is expected to continue on Sunday with another three games scheduled to hold at KFA pitch.
An initiative of Young Elite Group(YEG), the league, with 12 teams on its card will see a total number of 300 young footballers turning up for 22 weeks of football actions.
“It's an effort to engage the teens productively and help them improve their football skills giving that the scope of their training schedule would have to change and they will have the opportunity to compete in a conducive environment like this week in week out” stated the league Coordinator, Ibrahim Jatto while reacting to the games.
Interestingly, each encounter was also climaxed with the presentation of man of the match award to outstanding players of as a way of inspiring better performance from the lads.
On Sunday, BAFA will open the action against Oloyede/Arsenal Kiddies FA at 3pm. The encounter will be followed through with La Planet Preteens taking on Achivers FA while Future Stars FA will round the week one fixtures up against the Musty FA kids.
