United win Kwara Aiteo Cup in rare circumstance, Abruka Queens claim women category
Kwara United FC won the 2022 edition of the state Aiteo Cup in a rare circumstance against Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS) FC Ilorin at the main bowl of the state stadium.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that heavy downpour had threatened the game but both sides were eventually called to the pitch and it ended goalless at halftime.
When play resumed at the second period, ABS FC abandoned the game midway with complaints of weather conditions, which was declared false by the organisers, but Kwara United was named champions.
Abruka Queens FC had earlier edged Moje Queens FC 4-3 on penalties after a goalless draw at full-time in the women's final.
Chairman of the State Football Association, Malam Idris Abdullahi, assured football enthusiasts that the board would continue to explore channels to improve all areas of football in the state.
He commended the stakeholders, spectators and others for coming out in spite of the weather condition.
Nigeria Pillar of Sports – Chief Donatus Ejidike, Mallam Bola Mogaji – Chairman Kwara Sports Commission, Alhaji Issa Ojibara – Former FA Boss, Kumbi Titiloye – Chairman, Kwara United FC all received commemorative medals from the FA. (
