38-year-old man's corpse recovered from Kwara river

Date: 2019-12-23

Men of the Kwara State Fire Service, on Sunday, recovered the corpse of a 38-year-old man from the Asa River in Ilorin.

The corpse was recovered around the Obbo Road end of the river, off the Wahab Folawiyo (Unity) Road in the heart of the state capital.

The fire service said it got a report from traders around the area that there was a floating corpse of a man on the river and this prompted it to deploy personnel in the area.

It said, "We received a report early on Sunday from one Alhaji Jimoh Mohammed, a trader on the Obbo Road, that the corpse of a man of about 38 years was floating on the Asa River in the Obbo Road area of Ilorin.

"Our officers were drafted to the area and they used a boat to remove the body from the river. He was identified as Jamiu and we have handed over the corpse to the 'A' Division Police Station, Ilorin."

The Public Relations Officer, Kwara State Fire Service, Mr Hassan Adekunle, told PUNCH Metro that the circumstances surrounding the man's death were yet to be ascertained.
