Kwara government reiterates commitment to flooding

The Kwara State Deputy Governor, Mr Kayode Alabi has assured of government's commitment to addressing perennial flooding affecting the State to protect people's lives and property.

Mr Alabi gave this assurance while on a spot assessment of the evacuation of the debris on Asa river and visit flood-affected areas in Ilorin the Kwara State Capital.

He advised the people to desist from dumping refuse on the drainage system and waterways to avoid havoc occasioned by blockage of the river.

The Deputy Governor also called on relevant organisations to rise to the occasion of clearing the waterways to allow free flow of water.

The Director of the State Fire Service, Mr Waheed Yakub who is conducting the evacuation exercise said the organisation had been doing it best to clean and clear the debris to give way for a free flow of water, particularly at the Unity bridge.

Mr Yakub also advised the people to desist from dumping refuse into the river and called for the provision of life jackets among others to ensure smooth performance of their duty.
