PDP denies existence of factions in Kwara

The Peoples Democratic Party on Monday said there was no truth in the claim that there were factions within its fold in Kwara State.

It said the party was united under the leadership of the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki.

The leadership of the party described the purported emergence of a faction within the party as preposterous, ill-advised and baseless.

The party, in a statement by its state Publicity Secretary, Tunde Ashaolu, said there was no faction or division.

The statement read, "The group of people who are trying to create the impression that there is a faction within our party are nothing but impostors and jesters, who are only wasting their time. Their action is impolitic and we advise them to stop living in illusion.

"For the purpose of clarification, the Kola Shittu-led State Executive Committee of the PDP was legally constituted by the appropriate organs of our great party.

"Kola Shittu was duly inaugurated as the chairman of Kwara PDP at the party's national headquarters in Abuja by our national Chairman, Uche Secondus.

"Consequently, the state chairman inaugurated other members of the State Executive Committee in Ilorin, an event which was well covered in the media.

"Let it also be noted that members of the former State Executive Committee of the PDP led by Iyiola Oyedepo, who decided to stay in the party have been absorbed into the existing structure of the party.

"Therefore, let no one be deceived that there is a faction within Kwara PDP family; it is misleading to hold or believe that false narrative. Those parading themselves as factional PDP members are clowns and should be ignored.

"It is clear that the continued unity and stability in the PDP remains a huge disappointment for those individuals who wish to see our party enmeshed in confusion or crisis as it is the case in their own camp.

"We wish to re-emphasise that Kwara PDP remains an indivisible family under the leadership of Dr. Bukola Saraki. We also reiterate our commitment to the welfare of Kwarans and development of the state and urge the good people of Kwara to continue to support our party."
