Kwara State House of Assembly has mandated its committee on Education and Human Capital Development, to investigate the current state of primary and post-primary public schools in the state and report to the House within one week.

This was the resolution of the House, following a matter of General Public Importance, raised by the House Leader and member representing Essa/Shawo/Igboidun Constituency, Hon. Hassan Oyeleke, on the indiscriminate charging of fees, by public primary and post-primary schools in the state.

The Deputy Speaker, Chief Mathew Okedare, who presided over Tuesday's sitting, while reading the resolution of the House, said the investigation became expedient, to salvage public primary and post-primary schools from exploitation by the school authority.

He enjoined the committee to come up with recommendations that would restore the glory of public primary and secondary education in the state.

Oyeleke, had while raising the Matter of General Public Importance, observed that the practice of obtaining indiscriminate school levies, was at variance with the free education policy of the state government.

The House Leader therefore urged the House, to among other things, mandate the state Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, to put in place mechanism to curb the ugly trend.

Other members who spoke on the Matter of General Public Importance, expressed dissatisfaction over the trend and identified other factors, militating against qualitative primary and secondary education in public schools in the state.
