Ilorin Emirate Youths Take Empowerment to Prison Yard

The Ilorin Emirate Youth Development Association (IEYDA), has extended his usual empowerment scheme to the inmates of the Medium Security Service, Oke-Kura Prison, Ilorin on Wednesday 28th February, 2018.

The association which held her 4th annual empowerment programme on 17th February, 2018 at the Emir Palace, Ilorin to beneficiaries from across the various developmental associations in the five Local Goverment Areas of the Ilorin Emirate.

The event which was well attended by different stalwarts of the Ilorin Emirate and beyond witnessed found raising for the proposed projects of the association to help reduce the rate of unemployment and get youths engaged lawfully to earn ends meet.

At the Oke-Kura Prison Yard, the Ilorin Emirate Youth Development Association provided among other things, new set of uniforms for the inmates, food items, lanterns with kerosene, and extension and pipe laying of borehole water to the female section of the prison.

The President of the association, Alhaji Abdullah Babatunde Salaudeen, applauded the collaboration enjoyed from the APC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullah, that made the empowerment at the prison service possible. He, however, appreciated Mallam Bolaji Abdullah and other donors who have been supportive and contributed to the successes of the association.

The Deputy Controller of Prisons in-Charge of Oke-Kura, Mr. Adeyinka Adebayo Oyun, on behalf of the entire staff warders and inmates, appreciated the executives and members of the IEYDA for finding it worthy to extend their hands of fellowship to the inmates. He urged the people not to forget or forsake the inmates as they still remain part of the community as many would still be reunited with the people and the community.

The Chief Imam of NASFAT, Abuja, Alhaji Sarafadeen Abudlsalam Aliagan, prayed for the leadership of the Oke-Kura Prison for their human appraoch and handling of the inmates. He equally prayed to God almighty to replenish the pockets of the donors who have been supporting the association to reach out to the people of the Ilorin Emirate community.

While delivering the items, Alhaji Uthman Muhammed Jagunmo, the Publicity Secretary of IEYDA, urged the inmates to make judicious use of the items and reminded them that their present situation should not mar their future as no condition is permanent. He however, called on other well to do in the society to support courses meant to impact positively in the lives of the people.

Jagunmon noted that the association's empowerment is a continuous excercise. As more funds are available from the generous donors, the association shall proceed on her empowerment in touching more lives.
