KWIRS targets N38bn for 2018

The Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS) yesterday announced that its projection for the year 2018 stands at N38 billion.

This means that the service has resolved to adopt PRAISE revenue strategy to shore up the internal revenue generation of the state government.

The Chairman of the Service, Dr Murtala Awodun disclosed this at a media parley in Ilorin, the state capital to showcase the activities of the Service for this year.

He said the PRAISE strategy will involve praising tax payers as a way of persuading them to pay tax and appreciate them for the support rendered so far, reinforce and retain stakeholders support, advocate and advance tax education, Intensify and improve on staff commitment to achieve the goals set by government and the organization as well as engaging people to enforce compliance.

Awodun reiterated that the Service started operation fully two years ago, raking N17.4 billion in 2016 and N19.9 billion in 2017 using the PRESS Framework of generating revenue.

He explained that the organization remained solid and worked very well through persuasion, systematic reporting of activities through quarterly briefing of journalists on the service activities.

Awodun assured tax payers and the entire people of the state that community impacts programme would be more intensive this year.

The Chairman also disclosed that regional offices would be created across the three senatorial districts, while automation tax revenue system would be adopted this year in all ministries in the state.

He added that the system had been adopted in all tertiary institutions which helped to block leakages.
