Kwara Varsity Teachers Seek Better Funding For Institution

Date: 2017-01-19

Lecturers at the Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, have cried out to the state government to approve allocation of more funds to the institution to meet accreditation requirements.

This was as they said that this had become necessary in order to sustain the track record of the university as a world class institution.

The lecturers, under the auspices of KWASU chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), however, warned the Kwara State Government against paying lip service to the issue of funding the institution that had the capacity to leapfrog the development of state.

The union said the institution, wholly owned by the state needed more funds to enable its academic staff to carry out research activities, as well as for the institution to meet its accreditation requirements.

Briefing newsmen at the end of the union's congress, the Chairman of the union, Dr. Issa AbdulRaheem expressed concern over the stoppage of the institution's subvention since September 2015, saying it has hampered their research efforts.
