Varsity boss wants professionalism in ministerial appointments

Date: 2016-09-03

The Vice Chancellor of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Professor Taofeek Ibrahim, has canvassed a policy that would ensure that persons appointed as ministers in Nigeria have professional qualifications on the portfolios they are appointed to oversee.

Ibrahim, who spoke yesterday at the Vice-Chancellor's Press Conference preceding the 6th convocation ceremony of the University at its Ilorin campus, said gross deficiencies of some ministers in core areas of their ministries, could be responsible for their poor or average performances in offices to the disadvantage of the needed growth in the nation's economy.

The breakdown of the grand finale of the convocation slated for today shows that 874 are presented for graduation in first degrees across disciplines in education, humanities and social sciences, management sciences and natural sciences.

Disclosing the University's investment of the sum of N80 million into farming in its 2016/2017 fiscal year, Ibrahim urged the government to employ more aggressive and pragmatic approach to its policies in the agricultural sector.
