Man dies in Ilorin fixing electrical fault
There was confusion at Taiwo-Isale area of Ilorin, Kwara State capital when an electrician got electrocuted and died while carrying out repairs on electric pole in the area. The victim identified simply as Dauda reportedly hailed from Owonlarogo Compound, off Niger Road, Ilorin.
He was said to have been invited by yet to be identified people to fix a fault on an electric cable following which he climbed an electric pole. Dauda allegedly touched a life wire without wearing hand gloves, a practice which he had been accustomed to. But he was not lucky this time around as he fell from the ladder after the electrocution. An eyewitness account revealed that blood gushed out from both ears of husband of two wives following the electrocution, having hit his head on a concrete on the ground. City Rove was informed that the victim gave up the ghost while he was being rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention. He was said to have been buried the following day in line with Islamic injunctions. "We can't say this is how it happened. He (Dauda) was invited by some people here to come and repair electrical fault. He was known to be an expert in this job and he was not new to it."Based on his expertise, they called him to fix the fault. He climbed the ladder given to him, and as he was about fixing it, he touched a life wire without using hand gloves. Nobody could doubt him because he has been doing it for a long time.
"Anytime he was invited to repair an electrical fault not minding life wire, he would do it with his bare hands and nothing would happen to him, the same thing he did on the fateful day. "After touching the live wire, he got electrocuted and he fell off the ladder. As he laid flat on the floor, blood was gushing out from both ears and people were trying to take him to the hospital. We eventually learnt that he died on the way to the hospital and had since been buried. "It was a sad story. Everybody here could not believe the incident because this (Dauda) was very good and diligent at work. That's why people used to invite him to fix electrical problem whenever need arises", the source said. A source told our correspondent that since the ill-fated incident, the family compound of the deceased had been besieged by mourners, describing him as a gentleman.
