The Kwara State House of Assembly, on Wednesday, called on the state government to open more feeder roads and rehabilitate the existing ones so as to decongest the major roads within Ilorin metropolis.

This was consequent upon a motion entitled, "Reduction of Traffic congestion within Ilorin", moved by Hon. David Bamidele (Irepodun consisturncy) and other three members.

The speaker, Barrister Rasak Atunwa, who read the resolution, called for the review and redesign of raod layouts as ewell as come roundabouts in Iloriin metropolis.

Atunwa said the legislature enjoined state gocernment to strengthen and provide more equipment for Kwara State Roads Maintenance Agency (KWARTMA).

The motion reads, "Ilorin is regarded as one of the fastest growing capital cities in Nigeria owing to its strategic location and influx of corporate organisation to boost the commercial activities in the state;

"The increase in the commercial activities and expansion of the city has translated into heacy vehicular traffic on the major roads;

The state government installed traffic lights on some of these roads and established the Kwara state Road Traffic Management Agency to ease movement of vehicles on the road;

"The installation of traffic lights and establishment of KWARTMA does not solve the problem of traffic congestion on our roads; and

"The city is daily expanding consequent upon peace and people friendly policies of the government".
