Kwara gov promises to assist Omupo community
Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State has assured the people of Omupo in Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state of the determination of his administration to open up the community for better economic prosperity.
Speaking in Omupo during the 2012 Third Omupo Day celebration, held at the weekend in Omupo town, the governor also said that the state government would soon complete its water project with a view to providing potable water to the rural communities in the state.
Represented by the Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Chief Bode Olayemi, the governor said all the requests of the community were in in tandem with the policy thrust of the state government.
He said the upgrading of health centres across the state, embarked upon by the state government would also be extended to the community and urged them to continue to support government programmes for better development of the area.
Also speaking, the Olomu of Omupo, Oba Yaqub Adebayo Buari, Ilufemiloye II, said Omupo community has been maintained through self-help by the sons and daughters of the community.
He said it was time for the state government to start supporting them in terms of siting development project in the community.
He also urged the government to consider the upgrading of the community roads.
The traditionl ruler, who called on the government to consider the creation of more wards in the area in line with what is obtained in other older communities, assured the state government of the support of the community in ensuring success of its developmental programmes .
Earlier in his address of welcome, the interim National President of Omupo Descendants Union, Alhaji Rasaq Adebayo Iyanda, said the essence of the celebration was for the people of the community to come together in unity to assist themselves.
He said the forum would also give them the opportunity to call the attention of the authority to their expectations.
