VC canvasses small-scale refineries
While supporting the arrest and prosecution of the operators of local/illegal refineries, the Vice-Chancellor suggested that their knowledge should be harnessed to build small scale refineries in different localities of the country to ease the problem of fuel scarcity.
Prof. Ambali, who appreciated Dr. Adeniran, an alumnus of the University of Ilorin, for being a worthy ambassador of the University, pointed out that the University of Ilorin would be ready to provide any level of expertise the NNPC would require.
The Vice-Chancellor told the NNPC chief, "When we see our graduates occupy positions where they are transforming Nigeria, we feel fulfilled. We appreciate you as an alumnus of the University of Ilorin." Prof. Ambali stressed that NNPC is critical to the survival of the country, noting that it is what NNPC generates as revenue that contributes to the growth and development of the University of Ilorin.
In his remarks, Dr. Adeniran, who graduated from the Department of Geology and Mineral Sciences in 1983, said that the NNPC has 493 filling stations operating under the NNPC logo and 37 NNPC filling stations nationwide. In addition, he said that the company plans to build three more filling stations in each state of the federation, assuring that the company would overcome the problem of pipeline vandalisation.
Dr. Adeniran expressed joy at the development in the University, and commended the Vice-Chancellor for doing "a great job". On the NNPC team were Mr. Ladipo Fagbola, Mrs. Monsurah Umar-Baba (Technical Assistant), Mr. Akpera Tersoo (Technical Assistant) and Mr. Balogun Isaac (Detail).
The Vice-Chancellor was joined to welcome the visitor by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (RTI), Prof. Gabriel Olatunji; the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Prof. (Mrs.) N. Y. S. Ijaiya; the Registrar, Mr. Emmanuel Dada Obafemi; the University Librarian, Dr. Joseph Omoniy; the Deputy Bursar, Mr. I. O. Ogunbiyi and the Director of the Centre for Research Development and In-House Training (CREDIT), Prof. (Mrs.) T. A. Oladiji.
