Entrepreneurship for Senior Secondary

Date: 2016-02-05

The book was written on the premises that despite the concern for every child to have access to education, what is learnt or obtained as the result of their schooling is far from the expected. Therefore, there is the need to apply the three fundamental strategies propounded b the World Bank to invest early; invest smartly; and invest for all.

Again, the Author notes that the book is an attempt to catch the young generations early, that the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), in 2011 included entrepreneurship studies in it's newly developed curriculum for secondary schools towards inculcating requisite skills to empower young secondary school leavers and directed it's immediate implementation from that year, In the same vein, the book intends to help in attaining the three fundamental objectives of Millennium Development Goals; make secondary education functional; and address the dearth of technical skills in Nigeria'.

Dr Awodun also, recalled that the book was a product of the efforts of the Kwara State University Centre for Entrepreneurship and the Kwara State Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development when the Federal Government of Nigeria introduced the Entrepreneurship/Trade subject Into the Senior Secondary Curriculum as a compulsory subject, that the book is their contribution to solving the national problem.

According to the author, these books intend to inculcate the spirit of enterprise and industry in the Youth as well as inject in them the ability to create wealth through enterprise creation.

The author appreciated the support of LUSCON group towards the first publication of the book as well, their contribution to the growth and development of younger generation of Entrepreneurs in Kwara State in particular and Nigeria in general.

The book is divided into twelve (12) chapters.

Each chapter can be read and studied separately to help the prospective students, know and understand various entrepreneurship skills and how they can become entrepreneurs / job creators instead of job seekers in line with the dream of the new national curriculum and survive in a dwindling global economy.

In the book, an Entrepreneur is a person who organizes and manages any business; while Entrepreneurship is the capacity and willingness to develop, organize and manage a business venture along with any of it's risks in order to make profit. It is starting a new business.

The book states that early learning through acquisition of knowledge and skills continuously, within and outside the formal schooling system requires early introduction of the process of skill acquisition, hence the has come at the nick of time.

The qualities of Entrepreneurship Education are enumerated in page 10.

The beauty of the book include practice questions at the end of each chapter see pages 5, 12, Z3,31,44,58,74,85,93,and 111 to recap what have been learnt.

In view of the resourcefulness of this book, you will agree with the Author that students' attitude and orientation to education and the world of work are bond to change. There is no way they will not acquire one trade or another after their graduation. I am optimistic that this book has the inherent ability to make the future of 'graduates of our senior secondary schools brighter in Kwara State as they will be real catalyst of wealth creation. They will be creative, innovative and denotative Therefore, the Ministry must ensure each student of Senior Secondary Schools in the state is given a copy .The trainers must be given all necessary support to use the book accordingly.

In addition, permit me to request you to clap for the Author, Dr Muritala Awodun, the Entrepreneurship Centre of KWASU, the Vice Chancellor of KWASU, the MOE& HCD officers and LUBCON groups for ensuring this book sees the light of the day today.

Lastly, let me declare without any omission, commission or conspiracy that this book written by Dr Awodun is true reflective of what KWASU stands for a University for Community service.

Thanks you for listening and God bless, Kwara State.
