DPR expresses commitment to phase-out black marketers

Date: 2016-01-16

Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR, said it would collaborate with security agencies to curb the sale of petrol in black markets in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

This was disclosed by the operations controller, Mr. Philips Salvation, while reacting to the proliferation of black marketers in the state. He noted that DPR would also seek the support of the media and other stakeholders to ensure proper monitoring of filling stations.

He stressed that the sale of fuel in black markets, especially within the vicinity of filling stations, was purely a security issue which could not be solved by the department alone.

According to him, ""of black market joints is a collective effort of law enforcement agents, media, and unions in the oil sector which the department will champion. The department would intensify the monitoring of filling stations to stop the sale of fuel in containers."

The controller disclosed that the DPR had sealed several filling stations dispensing petrol at night to black market outlets and warned motorists who patronise them to desist from doing so.

Salvation said sealing of filling stations in the state would continue until the system normalised.
