The Belawu Ajoke Child and Women Care Foundation, an NGO, has empowered 100 people living with HIV/AIDs in Kwara State.

The group in collaboration with the Kwara State Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS (KWASACA) at the weekend organised an enlightenment programme for them in Ilorin South and Omu- Aran, Irepodun LGA of the state.

The project coordinator, Pharmacist AbdulRaheem Zubair, said 100 of them were empowered by the NGO.

He said 50 persons each in Ilorin South and Omu- Aran were given some amount of money to start their own businesses, adding that apart from other supportive services, each also received N2,000 as stipend during their monthly meetings.

The Chief Executive Officer of the NGO, Dr (Mrs) Zainab Ambali, said the organisation was set up to look after people living with HIV/AIDS.

"We take care of them at their various homes and attach them to nearby hospitals for care and support. We are grateful to KWASACA for giving us funds to enable them start businesses of their choice," she said.

A community mobilization officer with KWASACA, Mr Alabi Ibrahim, said the skills acquisition programmes being organised for them were funded through HIV/AIDS funds.
