Gov Ahmed vows to rid Kwara of illicit drug

Date: 2015-06-27

Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara on Friday expressed his readiness to rid the state of drug users and illicit trafficking in hard drugs.

Ahmed made this known in Ilorin in a statement issued to mark this year's International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

The statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Abdulwahab Oba, said the governor's administration has zero tolerance for drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

This, the governor said, informed his administration's resolve to rid the state of drug cells and abuse remained unshaken.

He said strategies have been developed to ensure that access and abuse of illicit substances in the state were checked.

"My administration's cooperation and assistance to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency and other security agencies on the task of curbing drug abuse and illicit trafficking would be sustained," he said.

Ahmed described Kwara youths as the future of the state and emphasised that hoodlums arrested recently in Ilorin would be prosecuted.

He also promised that unemployed youths in the state would be sent on entrepreneurship training to make them self reliant. (NAN)
