Banks operate skeletal services in Kwara

Date: 2015-04-01

There was tension in Kwara State yesterday during collation of presidential results, with some offices including banks shutting down services.

Daily Trust gathered that many banks closed as early as 1 pm as against the usual 4 pm; a development which surprised customers who said they were not notified.

Sources at the affected banks say the authorities were being proactive.

A customer who refused to disclose his name said: "It was surprising that the bank did not allow us to come into the banking hall to do our businesses. When we got there, we were told that there was a directive to the branch manager that the bank should close latest by noon. This was done without any prior explanation. It was a disappointment."

However, GTB bank branches closed around 3pm across the state. But unlike other states where workers stayed at home awaiting the result, there was considerable turnout of civil servants at the federal and state secretariats.
