Kwara 2015: Ahmed, Ajibola shun debate

Date: 2015-02-23

Kwara State Governor, Alhaji AbdulFattah Ahmed and his main challenger in the April 11, 2015 gubernatorial election in the state, Senator Simon Ajibola boycotted Monday a debate organised for notable candidates by the organised private sector in the state.

No reason was given the absence of duo at the debate, which was anchored by Kwara Coalition of Business and Professional Associations (KWACOBPA). Sources among the organisers claimed that Ahmed, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had given indications he would be at the event, which held at Kwara Hotels, while Ajibola of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) also allegedly promised to be there by about 1.00pm but failed to show up till the event was rounded off.

State chairman of the PDP, Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo brezeed into the venue but later left with several others few minutes into the presentation by the only candidate present, Dr. Mike Omotosho of the Labour Party (LP).

Omotosho said if elected he would plug current wastages inherent in the finances of the state, lamenting that despite receiving about N190 billion in four years the state has not been able to prove its best potentials.
