Nigeria: Ilorin Elders to Saraki - Endorse Gbemi's Guber Ambition

Date: 2010-08-25

The Waziri Elders' Forum, Ilorin-West of Kwara State yesterday asked Dr. Abubakar Olusola Saraki to give the party's governorship ticket for the 2011 to his daughter, Senator Gbemisola Rukayat Saraki.

Addressing journalists at the party's Olohunsogo's secretariat in Ilorin, the coordinator, Alhaji AbdulGaniyu Saka said, "We are all aware that 2011 electioneering campaign is fast approaching, hence there is every need for all politicians to contribute positively to peaceful electioneering campaign and to provide solution to successor issues".

Saka who said the group is fully aware of the religious position surrounding female leadership, affirmed that when she (Gbemi) assumes power, she will propel the political fortunes of the state. "To cap it all, since Dr. Bukola Saraki and Hajia Senator Gbemisola Rukayat share the same pedigree, we therefore appeal to you all to join us in appealing to the Waziri of Ilorin, Dr. Abubakar Olusola Saraki, and His Excellency Dr. Bukola Saraki to give us Hajia Senator Rukayat Saraki 2011 Gubernatorial race in Kwara State," Saka said.

"We are not unaware of noise been made about Hajia Senator Gbemisola Saraki candidature for Gubernatorial race as regards Islamic ethics. We are not asking Hajia Gbemisola Saraki to lead us in religion but lead us politically as number one citizen in the State come 2011," he added.
