Saraki's Supporters Storm SFU
Scores of supporters of former Kwara State governor, Senator Bukola Saraki today stormed the Special Fraud Unit, SFU, Milverton Road, Ikoyi, Lagos, where Saraki was expected to be quizzed.
He was invited by the SFU to explain his role in the alleged N21 billion fraud at Joy Petroleum, said to be one of his companies.
As early as 9 a.m., the chief press secretry of governor of Kwara State, Mr. Wahab Oba in company of commissioners and prominent politicians in the state arrived the SFU.
Also in the group were market women from Kwara State who stormed the SFU office in 10 hired Toyota Hiace buses.
The supporters carried placards with inscription of Bukola Saraki's photograph. They were chanting solidarity songs such as, "Sai Bukola, sai Saraki," "Olu omo of Kwara State."
Addressing journalists at the gate of the SFU, the Kwara State PDP chairman, Alhaji Ishola Balogun Fulani said: "Bukola Saraki is a man of integrity, very transparent, very plain. He is not guilty of the allegation leveled against him.
"He is not a criminal. He believes in the rule of law. He has freed Kwara State from oppression. He is a trust worthy leader."
P.M.NEWS correspondent gathered from a source this morning that Saraki might not report at the SFU today but might likely report at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Bukola Saraki was declared wanted last Saturday by the Special Fraud Unit of the police after he declined to show up for interrogation in the past two weeks.
The police had threatened to use maximum force to arrest him and secured a court order to arrest him on Friday.
Saraki is believed to have allegedly obtained a N21 billion loan from the defunct Intercontinental Bank through a proxy company, Joy Petroleum, owned by his late aide, Matthew Obahor, now deceased.
Saraki, through his counsel, Saka Isiaku and Lawal Rabana, last week filed a suit seeking to restrain the police from arresting him but Justice Gladys Olotu ruled against him, while agreeing with the argument of the police counsel, Femi Falana, that regardless of Mr Saraki's rights to liberty, the police have the power to arrest, investigate, and prosecute him based on reasonable suspicion that he has committed a criminal offence.
The senator had in a press statement denied any involvement in the scam.
